Kotonga
Tailoring

Kotonga, Lingala for to sew, is an initiative to help tackle unemployment amongst single mothers in the DR Congo, Kinshasa by offering tailoring courses. We strongly believe in giving back to those who are less fortunate and vulnerable, the reason why we teamed with Bless Foundation to support this initiative. Vulnerable employment is 88.2% amongst women, via World Bank, which leaves women without formal work arrangements, social protection, and safety nets to guard against economic shocks; thus they are more likely to fall into poverty.
We have teamed up with Bless Foundation, an NGO based in the DR Congo, to offer a 3 month programme, taught by an expert tailor, with courses being held twice a week. The various courses equip the participants with base knowledge and progressively nurtures their knowledge and skills on the principals of tailoring.
Launched in 2022, we have been able to successfully help a numerous amount of women who now have gone forth and become either independent or have joined workshops.
We are currently in the process of relaunching the project in the autumn of 2025 and will provide fresh updates of the course and progression.
